The UK today has a new Prime Minister - or it will by the time outgoing incumbent Keir Starmer has popped along to see King Charles to tell him formally that he’s off, then HMK will invite Andy Burnham to take his place, after which formalities the eighth (!) British Prime Minister in ten years will be free to assume his office.

But while the ceremonial formalities have to take place across the course of today, in reality Burnham’s ascension has been assured for weeks and the plans for his Premiership have been brewing for months. So what can the UK - and the rest of the world - expect from the guy who was until a few weeks ago the Mayor of Manchester - the self-styled King of the North - and not even an elected Member of Parliament?
