Why physical AI pilots stall - the TCS worldview as autonomy runs into accountability
NVIDIA has been positioning 'physical AI' as the next great opportunity, with value realized from lots of robots and AI factories. But a recent TCS survey on physical AI has found that in these early days, most enterprises are struggling to realize business value.
In its survey of 300 manufacturing CXOs and VPs across North America and Europe, only nine percent have moved a pilot into operations, and just four percent are running deployments across more than five facilities. A separate cohort of six percent are seeing measurable financial returns.
There are many flavors of 'physical AI', of course, ranging from better physics-informed simulation models for product development, world foundation models for training, improved controllers for robotic hands and feet, to adaptive process controls for industrial processes and logistics.
