Why Liferay is unbundling its DXP and putting AI Hub at the center
Ten years ago, Liferay was a successful vendor in the portal space, known for its open source foundations. Like other portal vendors at the time, it quickly evolved into a Digital Experience Platform (DXP). IT teams loved the platform for its flexibility and integration capabilities, and it became a central piece of many companies' tech stack.
But like all DXP vendors, change is inevitable, and AI is making sure that change happens. The good news for Liferay is that it reckons it is well-prepared for change with a new approach to product development as it builds a composable DXP with its own AI Hub.
From monolithic DXP to a composable platform
Originally an on-premises install, Liferay moved to the cloud and added a Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) version of its DXP. However, it didn’t abandon on-prem completely. Julie Molano, Director of Product, Julia Molano, says:
