A #BuildInPublic story on picking a hackathon idea that actually means something
Life is short. And it gets stranger the longer you sit with it: the more our memories fade, the shorter it feels in hindsight.
That idea used to live in a stack of notebooks on my shelf.
Not just a hackathon idea
This year I signed up for Shipaton, RevenueCat's annual mobile hackathon: build a real app, ship it to a real app store, wire in real monetization, all inside a roughly two-month window. I could have built almost anything — the hackathon reflexes are well-worn (a swipe-to-declutter tool, a niche habit tracker, a local alert app) and all of them are buildable inside the timeline.
But I didn't want to spend two months building something I'd abandon the day judging ended. I wanted something I actually needed myself, something I'd keep using regardless of how the hackathon...
