A massive amount of research and development has gone into developing robot grippers, all the way up to humanoid hands with multi-jointed fingers. But almost all of that has been invested in sophisticated sensors and high-performance, compact actuation. It almost seems like we entirely forgot to think about the way that humans actually manipulate things. That’s why the proprietor of Food For Robots devoted his PhD research to letting robot grippers slip.
