Why AI hardware needs privacy built in from the start
Every new consumer technology category seems to go through a similar cycle. Companies race to expand what a product can do, packing devices with as many features, sensors, and capabilities as possible to stand out.
Privacy questions often become more urgent only once those products are already in people’s hands and feedback starts rolling in from customers, industry observers, and the broader public about how the technology actually feels to use and live around.
We saw versions of this with social media, smartphones, and smart home devices, and we are beginning to see it again as AI moves into a new generation of devices that can see, hear, interpret, and respond to the world around us.
