When You Put Your Phone Down, This Sculpture Starts Listening
Modern internet-connected devices rarely sit idle. Even when you're not actively using your phone, laptop, or smart home gadgets, they're frequently communicating with servers around the world. Those exchanges usually happen silently, leaving users with little idea of what information is being sent or where it's going.
That uncertainty inspired LEAK, a digital sculpture by Arthur Effront that transforms network traffic into a constantly changing audiovisual display. The project gives internet communications a physical presence, making the invisible activity of connected devices visible to all.

LEAK is designed as either a freestanding or wall-mounted sculpture built from transparent 3D-printed PLA. At its center is an LCD screen that displays details about captured network traffic, including packet sizes and the destination or origin of the transmitted data.
