WhatsApp, the Meta-owned messaging platform has introduced Guest Calling, allowing people without WhatsApp accounts to join voice and video conversations through a link opened in a computer browser.

The feature, announced on October 15, supports up to 32 participants, with hosts controlling who can enter a call. WhatsApp says conversations remain free and end-to-end encrypted, with no time limit.

Beyond making calls easier to join, the development brings WhatsApp closer to the browser-based meeting experience offered by platforms such as Google Meet and Zoom.

How WhatsApp Guest Calling Works

The process begins with someone who already has a WhatsApp account.

Users can open the Calls tab, select the '+' icon and generate a call link. They can then share that link with anyone they want to invite, including people who do not use WhatsApp.

Guests open the link in a computer browser, enter their name and request permission to join.
