WhatsApp Adds Parental Controls for Teens Without Opening Chats
WhatsApp has introduced optional parental controls for teen accounts that let parents manage some privacy settings, receive alerts about group activity and control parts of their teen's experience with Status, Channels and Meta AI.
What parents won't get is access to their teen's personal messages or calls.
WhatsApp says those conversations will remain protected by end-to-end encryption, meaning neither parents using the controls nor WhatsApp itself can read or listen to them.
Parents Get More Say Over Privacy
Under the new system, parents can choose privacy settings such as who can see their teen's profile photo and who can add the teen to WhatsApp groups.
A parent-set PIN adds another layer of control. If the teenager wants to make one of the supervised settings less restrictive, parental approval will be required through that PIN.
