What I’d say to me back then – Google Cloud’s Maureen Costello on seeking out those who think differently
Maureen Costello entered the workplace young. Her first job was aged around five, working in her parents’ Australian construction business, P&MA Costello. This was where she was first exposed to engineering, sparking a lifelong interest in machines, how things are built and how they work.
At university, Costello was drawn to a different type of architectural engineering - the human brain, the human mind and how we relate to one another. She studied science, majoring in psychology with a focus on organizational psychology, which then developed into an interest in the role of technology being a changing force for people. This led to a 30-plus year career in tech, beginning as an analyst at Accenture, followed by roles at Microsoft and Google Cloud.
