Most AI rollouts fail in the same boring way. A chatbot gets bolted onto the product, pointed at one cloud model, and shipped because leadership wanted something to point at. Privacy, cost, latency, and what happens when the model is wrong all get a ticket labeled “later.”

Apple spent this year doing the unfashionable version of the same job. Siri AI entered public beta on September 14, in English first, after a long and very public delay. The assistant is a stack, not a feature. Work is split between the device and the cloud, Apple brought in a partner for the one layer where it was behind, privacy is built into the servers, and much of the plumbing was laid years before the headline. You can argue about the product. The engineering choices travel well beyond consumer devices.
