What 49 Vibe-Coded GitHub Projects Revealed About AI Code Duplication
By Andrey Kucherenko, maintainer of jscpd - 700K+ weekly npm downloads, peak 1.16M in April 2026.
I set out to measure how much code AI agents duplicate. And I ended up finding something more interesting!

The headline number is striking:
- 7.24 million lines of code scanned
- 25,612 duplicate blocks found
- average duplication 7.98%
45 out of 49 projects had detectable duplication. Only 4 (!) were clean.
But the more I looked at the top duplicators, the more I realized the story wasn’t really about AI agents producing duplicated code. The story was something else entirely, something nobody is talking about yet.
The most duplicated projects in my sample weren't AI-generated apps. They were skill libraries for AI agents.
