Venomics AI Raises $2.7 Million to Scale AI-Led Venom-Based Drug Discovery
Bengaluru-based Venomics AI, a biotechnology startup spun out of the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), has raised US$2.7 million in a pre-seed funding round to advance its AI-driven drug discovery platform. The round was co-led by Speciale Invest and South Park Commons, with participation from Operators Studio.
The company will use the capital to expand its Venom Atlas, a molecular dataset of animal venoms, strengthen its artificial intelligence (AI) and laboratory screening capabilities, and grow its multidisciplinary team. It also plans to accelerate the validation and optimization of promising molecules that could serve as starting points for new therapeutics.
Mining Nature’s Molecules
Animal venoms contain diverse biological molecules that have evolved over millions of years to interact with specific biological targets. These properties make them a potential source of therapeutic compounds. However, researchers have explored only a fraction of the molecular diversity found across venomous species.
Existing medicines demonstrate the...
