Valve Launches Steam Frame VR Headset for $1,050
Valve has finally launched the Steam Frame, its first foray into wireless VR. The 256GB kit costs $1,059, while the 1TB kit costs $1,299. Both bundles come with the headset, tracked controllers, a Wi‑Fi 6E wireless PC adapter, and a copy of Half‑Life: Alyx. A power adapter is not included.
Valve originally hoped to price the Steam Frame below $1,000, but the company says the 2026 global RAM and memory shortage pushed costs higher. The same goes for the Steam Machine, which launched at the same price—much higher than it would've cost if not for RAMgeddon.
The headset runs SteamOS on a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 SoC (a 3-year-old flagship chip), with 16GB of LPDDR5X RAM. It uses Proton and FEX emulation to run x86 and Windows Steam games on ARM Linux, and it supports wireless PC streaming on a 6GHz connection using a Wi-Fi 6E dongle.
