Unacademy cofounder Sumit Jain exits his full-time role on June 30 and stays an advisor as the upGrad merger nears, marking a key leadership shift in India’s edtech sector.

Unacademy is preparing for a leadership change. Cofounder and CEO Sumit Jain has announced he will step down from his full‑time role, with his last working day set for June 30. Jain will continue to be associated with the company as an advisor.

Unacademy’s other cofounder, Gaurav Munjal, will take charge of the platform following Jain’s exit. Jain had joined Unacademy in 2020 and was elevated to CEO in 2025, when Munjal shifted focus to the company’s foreign language platform, Airlearn.
