UK man sentenced to prison for selling thousands of pirated vinyl records

Music Piracy is Back: A recent case of "physical piracy" in the UK highlights the significant resurgence the recording industry is experiencing. Record labels are taking note, however, and trying to curb the growth of the unauthorized market that could accompany rising sales.

A Londoner named Rehan Ahmed sold thousands of vinyl records featuring music by popular artists, earning millions of pounds in the process. However, the vinyl discs were all "fake," and Ahmed is now going to jail after being caught by police. Representatives from the music industry were instrumental in uncovering the illegal printing operation.

The BBC reportsthat 40-year-old Ahmed's music "business" was caught in 2024 after a representative from the British Phonographic Industry (BPI) made a "test" purchase from his company, Phoenix of Vinyl. London police raided the premises...
