Uber India Unveils In-App Video Recording and Emergency Ambulance Services to Boost Passenger Safety
Uber India has announced a comprehensive overhaul of its rider and driver safety ecosystem at its annual “Uber Surakshit” conference in New Delhi. The ride-hailing giant introduced several localized, technology-driven updates designed to minimize on-road risks, enhance accountability, and provide rapid medical assistance during emergencies across Indian cities.
The flagship addition to the platform is the “Record My Ride” feature, an industry-first initiative aimed at deterring misconduct and resolving disputes. The tool allows drivers to utilize their smartphones to securely record encrypted video and audio of the vehicle’s cabin during a trip. To balance safety with strict data privacy standards, the recordings are stored locally in an encrypted format on the driver’s device. Neither the driver nor Uber can access or view the footage unless a safety incident occurs and the file is voluntarily attached to an official support report.
