Turn Your NES Into a Live Flight Tracker
If you want to see what’s going on in the sky over your neighborhood — or across the world — all you need to do is sit down at your computer and load a website to watch aircraft zip by. But many makers want a dedicated device that they can glance at whenever they like, so they build their own devices. These may be as simple as a Cheap Yellow Display with custom firmware, or much more elaborate like this system that projects air traffic on the ceiling.
Levi Maaia had a different idea for his own flight tracker. He built what he calls NES Radar, and as the name implies, it is a gloriously 8-bit creation. It is a DIY game cartridge that works with a real NES to show live airplane traffic around any airport.
