Trump calls the people asking to slow AI down a negative force
Donald Trump was watching golf at his Doonbeg resort in Ireland on Sunday when reporters asked him about the AI industry’s sudden appetite for slowing itself down.
He said the United States leads China, that he wants to keep it that way, and that “whoever wins with AI wins”.
“We can put guardrails, we can do this and that, but I think you have a lot of negative forces that are bringing it up that … shouldn’t be bringing it up, and they’re bringing up things that won’t happen,” Trump told reporters.
The Associated Press reported the remarks from Dublin.
Two days earlier, Dario Amodei had said Anthropic and its rivals must slow down, committing his company to third-party evaluators with internal access and asking Washington for an antitrust waiver so competitors could coordinate on safety.
