This Mini PC Cyberdeck Runs Its Own Self-Contained Internet
As long as you've got a connection to the internet, Wikipedia, maps, streaming media, and AI assistants are only a browser tab away. Lose that connection, though, and all of those services disappear. Michael Klements wondered how much of that experience could be recreated without relying on the internet at all, so he built a portable server that carries its own offline version of it.
Klements' work is based on the open source Project NOMAD software stack, which packages together offline maps, a local copy of Wikipedia, AI models, media servers, and other self-hosted services into a single system that can be accessed through a web browser. Instead of running it on a desktop PC sitting in a closet, Klements packaged everything into a rugged cyberdeck that can be carried almost anywhere.
