This Entire Cyberdeck Fits Inside of an Altoids Tin

The maker community used to have a tradition of using mint tins (particularly Altoids tins) as project enclosures. When 3D printing became accessible, that tradition mostly died as makers switched to designing custom enclosures. But those custom 3D-printed enclosures are now so common that they aren’t special anymore and mint tins are nostalgic. All of that led Salim Benbouziyane to the creation of this tiny cyberdeck that fits in an Altoids tin.

When you have unlimited space, building a cyberdeck is pretty easy these days. You can do that entirely with off-the-shelf components, like a single-board computer and an LCD.

With only an Altoids tin’s worth of space available, however, a cyberdeck is much more challenging. That is why Benbouziyane’s build is so impressive. He managed to cram a full-fledged cyberdeck into the tin, without making any major sacrifices to performance or utility.
