This Electronic Scissor Jack Lifts a Camera

Have you ever wondered why a scissor jack that weighs just 10 pounds can lift a car that weighs a couple of tons, with only the muscle power that your grandmother can put into it? That’s possible thanks to mechanical advantage, which turns a whole of bunch of rotations of a screw into a relatively short amount of linear travel. Bubs found out that those same principles make for a good camera lift when he built this winch-driven camera elevator.

This is, essentially, the vertical equivalent to a horizontal camera slider. Bubs wants it to capture nice videos (vertical dolly shots).
