This DIY Digicam Looks Like It Belongs on the USCSS Nostromo

The “cassette futurism” aesthetic is very hot right now. It is distinct from the cyberpunk aesthetic, which is more about personal style and cityscapes. Cassette futurism is all about the design of technology through the lens of ’70-‘80s products and sci-fi. The Alien film is full of that style and this DIY Raspberry Pi-based digicam looks like it could have come directly from that set.

This camera, called SATURNIX, oozes cassette futurism. From the geometric chunkiness to the weathered, yellowed-plastic finish, it looks like a product that would actually exist in the world of Alien or Total Recall. Even the buttons and branding elements adhere to the aesthetic.
