The Real Winner at Samsung’s Galaxy Unpacked? Qualcomm and Its Snapdragon Chips
If there’s one overriding theme that ran through Samsung’s Galaxy Unpacked event in London on Wednesday, it wasn’t foldables, or AI, or even phones – it was the inclusion of Qualcomm’s Snapdragon in every single device announced.
All three of the company’s new phones – the Galaxy Z Fold 8, the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra and the Galaxy Z Flip 8 – feature Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chips. Meanwhile, the Galaxy Watch 9 and the Galaxy Watch Ultra 2 both pack Snapdragon Wear Elite, and the newly announced Samsung and Google glasses will run on the Snapdragon AR1 Gen 1.
Speaking on stage at Unpacked, Qualcomm CEO Cristiano Amon described his company’s relationship with Samsung as “a rare partnership” that’s “built on innovation, technical collaboration, trust, and a shared commitment to keep pushing the boundaries of what’s possible within the Galaxy ecosystem.”
