The Prusa Nextruder’s Built-In Sensor Can Handle Pressure Advance Calibration
Pressure advance tuning is critical for modern high-speed FFF (Fused Filament Fabrication) 3D printing, because extrusion is a fluid system. Changes in the extrusion rate take time to appear in the print, which causes problems during dramatic acceleration. Proper pressure advance settings prevent such problems, but finding those settings is usually a manual process. However, Stefan from CNC Kitchen found a way to use the Prusa Nextruder’s existing sensor system for automatic pressure advance tuning.
Pressure advance is all about anticipating acceleration — like you get when making a sharp 90-degree direction change — and adjusting extrusion pressure to compensate.
Without pressure advance, big acceleration changes result in over-extrusion or under-extrusion, because it takes a moment for extrusion pressure to change.
