The pros and cons of managed VPS hosting
Shared hosting can only go so far. Complex web apps, automated workflows, and AI stacks that combine tools like n8n and OpenClaw will hit resource limits quickly. So you’re left to choose between VPS providers, which give you the option to go for managed or unmanaged options.
It feels like a simple enough trade-off. Pay more if you want direct access to the provider’s support team to troubleshoot and maintain your setup. Pay less if you think you can handle everything yourself. But the reality is much more complicated.
VPS providers each have a different definition of what constitutes a “managed” service. Some of them will actively work with you to install your applications, set up workflows, and perform ongoing maintenance and troubleshooting as needed. Others will offer the same level of support as an unmanaged VPS plan, but with improved availability throughout the day.
