‘Co-opetition’ just got ridiculous
‘Co-opetition’ has long been one of the more annoying enterprise tech buzzwords, but in the AI era it’s being taken to near ludicrous lengths. Tucked away in a US regulatory filing this week comes the revelation that Anthropic is paying Elon Musk’s SpaceX $1.25 billion a month for long term compute access. That’s an eye-watering $15 billion per annum being handed over to a firm that is technically a rival, just to keep the metaphorical lights on! According to the filing, SpaceX feels it has “sufficient capacity to provide compute for our own AI models, including support of our training and inference demands, and to satisfy the obligations under these agreements”. The deal between the two is set to run until May 2029 at present.
My take- a sign of the times, but what I’m intrigued by here is that given that Elon is Trump...
