Ryanair’s O’Leary takes off on the folly of free WiFi
Remember that amusing spat earlier this year between Ryanair CEO Michael O’Leary and Elon Musk that took place when the former declined to install the latter’s Starlink tech on his fleet of aircraft, on the not entirely unreasonable grounds that its weight would add a fuel penalty drag which would go on the price of tickets. And if anyone’s going to be bumping up the price of tickets, it’s going to be O’Leary, not some Silicon Valley Tech Bro.
This led to a vintage trillionaire’s tantrum at being told no! Dubbing O’Leary an “absolute idiot”, he sneered:
Should I buy Ryan Air (sic) and put someone whose actual name is Ryan in charge?
This in turn led to O’Leary declaring:
I would pay no attention whatsoever to Elon Musk. He’s an idiot – very wealthy, but he’s still an idiot.
