Meta accused of using AI for inappropriate HR purposes

Meta earlier this year backed away from a scheme to use AI to monitor employee activity at work. But now, 26 employees have filed a lawsuit accusing Mark Zuckerberg’s empire of tapping into AI-powered software to target specific staff for mass layoffs.

The workers allege that Meta has been using tools that disproportionately target people with disabilities and those who took sick leave. Included in the filing are:

A scientist who says she was on approved maternity leave when she was notified two days prior to giving birth that she was being laid off.
An engineer who claims he received a low ranking due to the sick leave he took for an injury.
A manager who was 16 days into his medical leave when he was let go.
And an employee who claims a manager warned him that taking medical leave...
