The Lexar TouchLock Portable SSD is one of the simplest and cheapest hardware-encrypted drives I've ever tested

Initial setup required downloading the Lexar app and running through the simple step-by-step process, after which the drive can only be accessed, or even recognised, once you tap your NFC-enabled phone on the touch surface. Hardware encryption is far superior to software, and whilst transfer rates are relatively slow for an SSD, if you need to keep your files secure, this is a great option.

Pros

  • +Hardware encryption
  • +MagSafe design
  • +Tap your phone to unlock

Cons

  • -Slow for an SSD
  • -Phone required unlock
  • -Limited capacity options
