The Inventions and Pioneers That Built Podcasting
Podcasting wasn’t invented in 2004.
It was built on more than a century of inventions, discoveries, experiments, and ideas.
The microphone, radio, magnetic tape, stereo, digital audio, MP3, RSS, and the iPod all existed before podcasting emerged. Each generation stood on the work of the one before it.
Isaac Newton famously wrote, “If I have seen further, it is by standing on the shoulders of giants.” Podcasting is a similar story.
The people behind its evolution came from very different fields. Inventors, engineers, broadcasters, mathematicians, software developers, entrepreneurs, and journalists all contributed pieces of the technology and infrastructure that eventually made podcasting possible.
