The Garmin Forerunner 170 Music is a solid running watch — but I think the cheaper Forerunner 70 is actually the better value pick
The Garmin Forerunner 170 (and its sibling, the 170 Music) is a great running watch. The battery performs as described, the metrics are accurate and useful, and the addition of on-device Garmin Pay, Smart Notifications and music storage edges it closer towards smartwatch than training tool. Any runner, from a beginner to a seasoned marathoner, will feel good about using it — but it’s very similar to the Forerunner 70, and comparatively highly priced for a few extras.
Pros
- +Light and smallish-sized
- +Great performance
- +Smart features are useful
- +Music download includes streaming playlists
Cons
- -Highly priced compared with 70
- -No microphone/speaker/voice assistant
