The Future Of Gaming Is Digital, Whether You Like It Or Not

All at once in a single tweet, Sony tanked 30 years of goodwill towards the PlayStation brand. The company simultaneously announced that it would stop producing physical games on Blu-Ray discs after 2027, and also announced that it would close the PlayStation store for its PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita systems. And of course, the double-whammy set off a firestorm on the internet.

The impulse for most PC gamers might be to laugh at console peasants, but this is an actively terrible decision. You see, closing a console store doesn't just mean you won't be able to buy new titles. It also prevents legitimate owners from re-downloading titles they already purchased.
