The Front Page of the Internet Is Killing RSS Feeds

Reddit will cut off its RSS feeds on November 13 and end public API access by March next year. Both paths reportedly allow for large-scale data scraping and misuse, making them riskier than they're worth.

The company acknowledged in its announcement that "RSS has been a beloved part of the open web for a long time," but that's arguably an understatement. Reddit—long known as "the front page of the internet"—is oft cited as one of the last remaining mainstream bastions of the pre-AI internet, where users can find news and answers to hyperspecific questions without encountering chatbots or AI-generated summaries. For some, losing RSS feels like losing a scrap of that freedom.
