Deadlines may have changed, but digital leaders need to do more and up the pace if they are to comply with the European Union (EU) AI Act, research with the diginomica network - our community of CIOs and CTOs - reveals. Enforcement will not come into effect until December 2027, but as our findings show, there is much to do, and in today’s disruptive economy, digital leaders cannot be caught napping in the heat of the 2025 European heatwave.

A series of amendments to the EU AI Act reached provisional agreement, which will delay enforcement until December 2027. Known as the Digital Omnibus, this buys time for both digital leaders, the EU, and the regulators of the 27 member states.
