The DEF CON 34 Badge Packs a Surprise: Andrew "bunnie" Huang's "Mostly-Open" Baochip-x1
Attendees at the DEF CON 34 conference, to be held this week in Las Vegas, are going to find something very special on their badge: Andrew "bunnie" Huang's Baochip-x1, a "mostly-open" chip designed to be transparent and understandable — to the point of being able to inspect its layout under infrared light.
"The DEF CON 34 badge [is] the creation of hardware superstar Bunnie Huang, and it features his open-source, fully inspectable Baochip," the event organizers announced ahead of the doors opening on 6 August. "DEF CON 34 badgeholders will be the first to get their hands on a radically transparent device with all kinds of powerful possibilities — security token, password manager, HSM [Hardware Security Module], pretty light generator — that we hope will keep you busy long after closing ceremonies."
