The Cute Agentic AI Saga Continues With OpenAI's New Dots

This week, OpenAI launched a new group of AI agents that work continuously across connected apps and a cloud computer. Called Dots, the colorful, personified agents are clearly meant to compete with Meta's new Muse AI, another cuddly-looking personal AI agent.
OpenAI says Dots can "do nearly anything." By default, each Dot runs on its own cloud computer and browser instead of the user's local device. Dots can connect to more than 4,000 apps through OpenAI's plugin ecosystem, including Slack, Microsoft Teams, Google Drive, iMessage, and others. Users can communicate with them through ChatGPT.
Dots run on GPT-6 Astraand can keep working on long-running projects after a user provides an initial prompt, such as researching information, preparing drafts, helping update documents, and assisting with coding tasks.
