The Acer Googlebook 14 is an excellent first attempt at a new type of laptop – but Google's software needs work
The Acer Googlebook 14 is a very good first attempt at a new breed of device: the Googlebook. Thanks to the lower starting price, 2-in-1 form factor and stylish design, it’s got a good chance of being the breakout Googlebook star. The powerful components allow Googlebook OS to run smoothly, on-device AI feels much better integrated than with Windows 11 laptops, and the screen looks fantastic. However, Googlebook OS feels a little underbaked at the moment, though some of the Android ecosystem features show promise. As long as Google remains commited to Googlebooks, and continues to improve the software, then the Acer Googlebook 14 will be an excellent investment for Android users looking for a slick MacBook Air-like experience. However, the limitations of Googlebook OS mean it might not be for everyone, and battery life is a little disappointing.
