When people think about long-range FPV drones, they usually picture large quadcopters carrying hefty battery packs. Single-cell (1S) drones sit at the opposite end of the spectrum. They're lightweight, inexpensive, and quite capable, but endurance has always been their biggest limitation. Mediocre Nerd just built a custom 1S quadcopter called Swift that is meant to fix the most common problems seen in the tiniest FPV drones that are currently available.

Swift was designed from the ground up, starting with a custom carbon fiber frame that uses a deadcat layout, keeping the front propellers completely out of the camera's field of view. Early prototypes were cut at home on a desktop CNC machine using inexpensive carbon fiber sheets. After testing multiple thicknesses, Mediocre Nerd settled on a stronger 2.5-mm professionally manufactured carbon fiber frame following failures with lower-quality material during crash testing.
