Survey Highlights Consumer Concerns Over Digital Market Concentration in India

A consumer survey commissioned by a group of Indian companies and conducted by Kantar suggests that a small number of digital platforms play a dominant role in how urban Indians search for information, communicate, navigate, store data and access online services, raising questions about competition, consumer choice and market access.

The survey, based on responses from 500 urban and digitally active consumers across India, found widespread reliance on a handful of global technology platforms across key digital services. According to the findings, all respondents reported using Google for search and personal email, while 98% said they use Chrome for web browsing. Google Maps was used by 97% of respondents for navigation and Google Drive by 96% for cloud storage.

For communication, WhatsApp emerged as the most widely used platform, with 94% usage, followed by Google Meet at 77%.
