Supercharging the Classic Arduino Nano Form Factor

The classic Arduino Nano is very popular with makers because it squeezes a capable microcontroller and breadboard-friendly pinout into a board small enough to disappear inside a project. But its ATmega328P processor is showing its age, particularly when compared to modern 32-bit microcontrollers. So Magmabow decided to create a custom development board that matches the Nano's tiny dimensions while giving it considerably more processing horsepower.

In his latest project, Magmabow designed a custom Arduino Nano-sized development board around an Arm processor. Specifically, he decided to use Microchip's ATSAME70, a 32-bit Arm Cortex-M7 microcontroller running at 300 MHz. Compared to the ATmega328P found on the Arduino Nano, Magmabow says it runs about 18 times faster while providing 60 times as much program memory and 200 times as much RAM.
