Star Citizen Officially Passes $1 Billion in Crowdfunding

Star Citizen has officially crossed the $1 billion mark in crowdfunding in what will be its 14th year of development and audience-generated investment. That's despite the game still not being anything close to finished—neither the full-scale multiplayer experience, nor the single-player Squadron 42 campaign.
When it comes to crowdfunding success stories, it's hard not to consider Star Citizen the king. It generated $2 million through its original Kickstarter campaign after over a year of development, with promises to release the single-player and multiplayer experiences by 2014. That timeframe came and went, and in the 12 years since, Cloud Imperium Games has repeatedly pushed back the final release date.
