Spotify will badge AI artist profiles, and keep them out of your recommendations

Spotify will begin attaching an “AI Persona” badge to artist profiles whose public identity is generated rather than human, the company announced.

Profiles carrying the badge will be excluded by default from editorial and algorithmic recommendations, which is the part of the policy that actually bites.

There are two versions of the label. Artists can apply “AI Persona” to themselves from Tuesday through Spotify for Artists, under a new setting in the profile and identity menu.

Spotify will apply “Likely AI Persona” itself to profiles it judges to be photorealistic AI-generated identities, working through a review queue that prioritises accounts by audience size.

The company has said it will not rely on self-disclosure alone, and that human reviewers work alongside its detection tooling.
