SPARK Microsystems Partners with SteelSeries to Deliver 8K-Polling LE-UWB Wireless Gaming Mice
SPARK Microsystems has found a new use for its energy-efficient Low Energy Ultra Wideband (LE-UWB) communications technology: driving next-generation gaming peripherals, in partnership with SteelSeries.
"Conventional wireless connectivity compromises the performance metrics that matter most to competitive gamers," claims SPARK Microsystems Fares Mubarak, announcing the company's partnership with SteelSeries. "LE-UWB is the next evolution, and SteelSeries collaborated with SPARK to deliver a new industry-leading innovation and premium products that outperform gamers' expectations. That's powerful validation and proof positive that a generational transformation is underway in gaming connectivity."
SPARK's in-house LE-UWB technology is based on an impulse-radio ultra-wideband system, which it claims can deliver data rates of almost 41Mb/s while drawing as little as 1 nano-Joule (1nJ) per bit and with predictable latency of around 25µs for 1kb of data — leading the company to position it as "deterministic wireless." Gaming peripherals, by contrast, tend to use either Bluetooth Low Energy...
