SpaceX plans a $100B spaceport built for thousands of launches a year

SpaceX has announced plans to spend up to $100bn on a launch facility in Vermilion Parish, Louisiana, intended to support thousands of launches annually and become the main site for Starship. Arianespace is targeting six to eight Ariane 6 launches this year.

SpaceX has picked where Starship will mostly fly from, and it is Louisiana. The company plans to spend up to $100bn on a facility in Vermilion Parish designed, according to the state’s economic development office, to support thousands of launches annually.

Elon Musk put a jobs figure on it. He said in a video that the site would bring “probably 10,000 really exciting jobs” to the state.

Everything else depends on it working. Starship carries the Starlink expansion, the orbital data centre plans and the Mars ambitions that justify a company valued near $2tn, whose shares rose about 2.5% on the news.
