Sony Threatens Legal Action As PS5 Disc Backlash Hits Support Staff
Sony’s decision to phase out physical PlayStation game discs beginning in 2028 has been met with fierce backlash from the gaming community, leading to calls for a blackout of the platform and rumors of pushback from publishing partners. Some fans have taken things too far, however, forcing the company to threaten legal action against aggressive customers.
Sony released a statement on its Japanese website listing some of the transgressions its customer service representatives have had to deal with since the announcement to eliminate game discs took place. Some of the actions include making unreasonable demands for compensation, verbal abuse, discriminatory or sexual behavior, attacking individual employees and even threats of uninvited visits to the corporate offices.
