Someone Finally Fixed Installing Apps on a Mac

One of the oddest things about macOS is the installation dance. Dealing with disk images, dragging and dropping—it's the main way of installing software from outside the Mac App Store, and it's annoying.

You download a DMG file, open it to mount a virtual disk, and drag the application from there to your Applications folder. Then, to keep things tidy, you need to unmount the virtual disk and delete the DMG file. It's … convoluted. To be fair, it was relatively streamlined back in 2001 when it became the main way to install applications on the then-new Mac OS X. But that was a quarter-century ago, and there has to be a better way by now.

Developer Jeff Schumann agrees, so he built a tool that does all these steps for you: EasyDMG. This completely free app has an adorable hamster mascot and the slogan “Created out of spite.”...
