Snap Introduces SPECS, Combining AI Assistance and AR in a Standalone Device
Snap has introduced SPECS, a new pair of standalone augmented reality (AR) glasses designed to bring AI-powered computing, productivity tools, entertainment, and immersive experiences into users' field of view without requiring a smartphone or external device.
The company said SPECS are available for pre-order at $2,195 with a refundable $200 deposit and are expected to begin shipping in the United States, United Kingdom, and France later this year. Announcing the product, Evan Spiegel, co-founder and CEO of Snap Inc., said the device marks a shift from smartphone-based computing to wearable spatial computing.
"SPECS are the beginning of a new era in computing," Spiegel said, adding that the goal is to bring digital experiences into the user's environment rather than requiring people to interact through handheld screens.
