The Open Source Hardware Association (OSHWA) runs a free program that allows creators to certify that their hardware complies with the community definition of open source hardware. Whenever you see the certification logo, you know that the certified hardware meets this standard.

Currently the Certification database lists 3,431 individual certifications. In September we added 30 new certifications, from educational physics devices to USB protection and everything in between. We were happy to have new and recurring names show up!

The Cerebus is a pocket-sized device you can plug into suspicious USB’s to see what it tries to do to a computer. You can utilize this little guy and its OLED screen, and color LED to find out what the storage device can do when plugged in, saving you the horrors of falling victim to a USB voltage spike or files being offloaded suddenly.
