Semiconductor supply chains span a complex network of design, fabrication, assembly and test, packaging, distribution, integration, and deployment. Establishing confidence in the origin, identity, history, and movement of semiconductor products requires the ability to connect relevant events, information, and evidence across that ecosystem.

NIST is working with industry, government, academia, and standards organizations to advance practical approaches to semiconductor traceability and provenance. This effort brings together several activities and industry engagements that have identified common needs, technical gaps, and opportunities for collaboration.

The December 8 workshop is the next step in this continuing effort. It will bring together a select group of leaders from across the semiconductor ecosystem to move from previously identified needs toward anindustry-informed starting point for implementation. The objective is to develop the initial structure and key elements of industry-wide guidance on semiconductor traceability and provenance.

The workshop will focus on a fundamental question...
